The Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC) is a rehabilitation facility located in Sepilok. This centre is the one and only conservation centre in the world that rescues, rehabilitates and improves the welfare of Malayan sun bears before they are released back into the wild.
Located in Sepilok, Sandakan, east of Sabah, BSBCC has opened its doors to the public since 2014, and visitors have come from near and far to learn more about these vulnerable bears and observe them in a natural forest enclosure.
The centre has been playing a vital role in conservation by providing orphaned and injured sun bears a sanctuary from the threats of deforestation, illegal hunting and poaching. Some of the bears at the centre were rescued from captivity after being kept as pets in unnatural living conditions.
The centre is equipped with the essential facilities including a large forest enclosure that helps to facilitate in the rehabilitation and welfare of the sun bears before they are released back into the wild where they truly belong.
